Winter 2014 VOLUME 25, ISSUE 1 Where Do You Go For Barbeque? T he Icehouse building in Raton has been around since 1903. It originally served the community as the Raton Crystal Ice and Cold Storage Company situated on a spur of the Santa Fe Railroad, and over the years sold feed and tack before being transformed into a steakhouse. The building was purchased two years ago by the Hayden Family and with their knowledge of barbeque gained from competing in some of the most prestigious, competitive barbeque circuits in the country, and a lot of inspiration and advice from some of the top restaurateurs in the country, The Historic Icehouse was opened for business. Every member of The Icehouse staff takes great pride in serving award-winning barbeque, burgers, steaks and other made-from-scratch comfort foods in a fun, comfortable atmosphere. The building's massive walls are decorated with antiques and artifacts from years past; there are custom motorcycles on display from some of the most renowned bike builders in the world, and the patio and horseshoe pits provide a comfortable place to relax and visit with family and friends. The Icehouse has 75 different beer choices for its patrons, and boasts the most extensive wine list in the area, with offerings from Opus One, among others. "The Icehouse is about excellence, good times and great food; and we invite you to stop by to see what all the buzz is about!" says Stephen Hayden. "We have private dining and meeting rooms available for your convenience and offer dine in, carry out, and onsite catering seven days a week." Hours are: Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Be sure to check The them out on Facebook for specials and Historic Icehouse events. 945 S. 2nd .....
